A reader with Ketu in the 5th house is told they will feel distant from children and from their own creativity. A reader with Ketu in the 10th is told status will stop mattering to them. Then they check their own life and find the opposite sitting there.
Ketu removes the satisfaction from the house it occupies. The attention stays exactly where it was. So the person keeps going back to that part of life, because nothing there ever closes. The going back looks like obsession to anyone watching.
Detachment is what is left once the going back wears itself out. That takes years.

The early years look like Rahu
Ketu is the tail. No head, so no appetite for a fresh experience. What it carries instead is a finished one. The skill in that house is already developed, and the desire that built the skill was spent somewhere the person has no memory of.
This produces a loop. The person works hard in that house and receives no signal that the work is done, so they work harder.
Take Ketu in the 1st. That person spends their twenties on hairstyles, on physique, on the mirror, and feels unfamiliar inside their own body the entire time. Ketu in the 11th collects contacts and chases gains that arrive and scatter at the same rate. Both look like craving from outside.
Both are described in the texts as detachment, which is accurate about the destination and silent on the road.
For a young reader, this matters. The intensity is the placement working correctly, and it has an end.
When the shift happens
Graha paripaka gives the clearest marker. Mars matures at 28 and supplies directed action. Mercury matures at 32 and supplies discrimination. Before those years, a person has neither the steadiness to stop nor the clarity to see what they keep repeating.
From 28 onward, the loop becomes visible to the person living inside it. Ketu itself matures at 48, so the settling completes closer to that age.
Vimshottari sets the real timing. Ketu mahadasha runs seven years, and a Ketu antardasha appears once inside every mahadasha. Someone born with Ketu mahadasha running meets the whole cycle in childhood. Someone whose Ketu period opens at fifty meets it then, with everything described below arriving decades late.
Age gives you the common pattern. Only the dasha answers for a specific chart.
Ketu through the twelve houses

Ketu in the 1st house
The early focus is the face and the body. Hairstyles change often, appearance gets close attention, effort goes into building physique. The person works on how they look and stays uneasy inside the body throughout.
Later the body stops feeling personal. It becomes something they use. Rahu sits opposite in the 7th, so the unspent hunger moves onto partners.
Ketu in the 2nd house
Earning dominates the early years. The person accumulates hard and watches what family thinks of their standing. Speech is blunt when young, with almost no filter between the thought and the words.
Income here rarely stays fixed. Sudden gains and sudden losses repeat, so earnings tend to arrive from several directions instead of one salary. Commission work, trading, buying and selling, consulting fees. Later the earning continues and what it buys matters less.
Ketu in the 3rd house
Close ties with whoever is nearby. Siblings, cousins, neighbours, the daily circle. Communication comes easily and the person enjoys doing it. Short trips, new skills, courage that shows up before the planning does.
Later the closeness stays and the contact thins, often for no reason either side can name. Talking starts costing energy the person no longer wants to spend. The skill remains and the appetite for using it goes.
Ketu in the 4th house
Strong attachment to home and to the mother, often living close by. The desire to own runs heavy: a house of one's own, vehicles, land. This person holds firmly to their own rules, their own space, their own emotional territory.
Later that closeness turns into physical distance. Work, marriage, or foreign residence takes them away from the mother and from the place they grew up. The bond stays and the daily contact goes. Property gets acquired and delivers less settlement than expected.
Ketu in the 5th house
Creative expression and a romantic nature, from early on. The person performs, writes, makes things, falls in love easily, and wants the work seen. Intelligence gets doubted while it is being demonstrated constantly. Formal study matters too, and often the credential matters more than the subject.
Mantra and practice come naturally here, as though the technique were already known.
Later a gap opens in higher education. Studies pause, change direction, or finish outside the usual track. The creating carries on without needing an audience, and children usually come later than planned.
Ketu in the 6th house
Strict routine early. The person builds systems, keeps schedules, and takes real pride in daily discipline. Contact with the maternal side is close. Opposition dissolves without direct confrontation and enemies lose interest before the fight starts.
Later the routine loosens and the discipline stays. Work gets done without the structure that used to hold it together. Distance grows with the maternal family, usually through circumstance. Debts clear and litigation resolves more easily than the situation suggests.
Ketu in the 7th house
Repeated relationships early, and real difficulty being alone. The pursuit runs intense and the satisfaction stays short.
Partners are often physically elsewhere, and the reason is usually professional. Shipping, military service, medical training, foreign postings, field work. This is the pattern I see most consistently here. Check it against your own case before reading anything further into it.
Later the distance turns cyclical. It lifts, it returns, and it ends nothing. The withdrawal is rarely aimed at the partner, because Ketu thins the appetite for partnership itself. Rahu sits in the 1st, so self-assertion is the half worth watching.
Ketu in the 8th house
Attraction to whatever is hidden. Secrets, mysteries, the things other people avoid discussing. The person keeps their own matters private and is pulled toward anything kept from them. Sudden turns in circumstance repeat, and they handle those turns more steadily than most.
Later the attraction becomes method. Research, investigation, healing, occult study. Joint finances stay unpredictable, and inheritance arrives from directions nobody anticipated.
Ketu in the 9th house
Strong belief early, inherited from family instead of chosen. The person is close to the father and takes his guidance seriously. Teachers get respected. Foreign lands pull from a young age, usually for study or for knowledge that seems unavailable at home.
Later the belief turns into questioning. The father's authority stops carrying the weight it did, and distance grows through work or geography. Teachers are found wanting, sometimes several in succession. What replaces them is a path built from direct experience.
Ketu in the 10th house
High visibility early. The person is active in public life, builds a name, reaches the position they aimed at. The career strength stays, since the 10th is an upachaya house. What withdraws is the need to be seen holding it.
Later the same person moves to the back end. Consulting, research, operations, writing that goes out under another name, building the thing somebody else presents. Full strength, face removed.
Ketu in the 11th house
Contacts, groups, income, collected hard in the early years. The person joins things, builds networks, chases gains. Those gains do come, because this is an upachaya house where Ketu strengthens over time. Ketu takes the expectation attached to them.
Later the network filters itself. The person stops maintaining relationships that require maintenance, so loose contacts fall away with nobody falling out. What stays has substance behind it.
Ketu in the 12th house
A strong pull toward foreign places, early. Foreign culture, foreign languages, people from elsewhere. The person wants to be somewhere other than where they are, and spending runs toward travel, study, and things that leave nothing behind.
Later the pull settles. They work alone by preference now, and solitude stops feeling like something to escape. This is Ketu's own seat, since the 12th house holds moksha. What most people reach after years of effort is already sitting here.
What changes the reading
The house gives an outline. Four things decide how that outline fills in, and skipping them is where most Ketu readings go wrong.
Ketu rules no sign in the usual scheme of house lords, so it delivers the results of its dispositor. Ketu in the 5th under a strong Jupiter and Ketu in the 5th under an afflicted Mercury give different results. Judge the dispositor first. The sign itself is read in full in Ketu in the 12 signs.
A planet conjunct Ketu hands over its own significations. Mars with Ketu in the 3rd sharpens the courage and shortens the temper. Jupiter with Ketu in the 9th turns the questioning philosophical instead of rebellious.
Ketu rules Ashwini, Magha, and Mula. Placement in its own nakshatra sharpens everything described above.
Rahu always sits in the seventh house from Ketu, so read the axis as one unit. The other end is covered in Rahu in the 12 houses. The hunger Ketu withdraws from its house turns up undiminished at the opposite end of the chart.

What to do with this
Find Ketu in your chart and work out which stage you are in. If the house still pulls hard and gives nothing back, you are in the first stage and the work is patience. Keep going, and stop expecting that area to settle you.
If the pull has already loosened, the second stage has started. The skill in that house is intact and available. The house that stopped satisfying you is where you can now work without needing a result from it. That is a rare thing to be handed.
Check your Vimshottari dasha for timing. The shift concentrates in Ketu mahadasha or antardasha, and knowing that window turns a confusing stretch of life into something you can prepare for.
Remedy here works on the mind. The house Ketu occupies is where you are asked to act without demanding an outcome. Practising that on purpose is what stops the placement feeling like a loss.
Closing
Ketu marks an area already worked through. The attention stays because the habit of working there stays, and the satisfaction is gone because the work is finished. Read the placement as detachment from day one and you miss the years of effort that come first.
House, dispositor, conjunction, dasha. Read those four together and Ketu becomes the one part of the chart where you already know what you are doing.
A personal consultation covers the placement, its dispositor, and the timing against your own chart.
