How Is Manglik Dosha Calculated?
Mars creates Manglik Dosha when it sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Lagna. The calculator finds the sign Mars occupies at your birth and counts its house from your Lagna.
It then checks the cancellation rules. Mars in Aries or Scorpio, its own signs, cancels the dosha, and so does Mars in Capricorn, its sign of exaltation. When Jupiter or Venus sits in the same sign as Mars, the dosha is softened.
The verdict follows the Lagna. The result also shows the house of Mars from the Moon and from Venus. The tradition reads the dosha from these 2 points as well.
Full and Partial Manglik Dosha
The result sorts every chart into 1 of 3 levels:

The sign cancellation comes first. Mars in Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn gives No Manglik Dosha, even when it sits in a dosha house.
Two Worked Examples
Take a Cancer Lagna with Mars in Capricorn. Capricorn is the 7th house from Cancer, so Mars sits in a dosha house. Mars is exalted in Capricorn, and the dosha is cancelled.
Now take a Leo Lagna with Mars in Gemini. Gemini is the 11th house from Leo, outside the 5 dosha houses. If Mars is still in a dosha house from the Moon or Venus, the result is Partial Manglik Dosha. If not, the result is No Manglik Dosha.
