Special Yogas Involving Venus
Malavya Yoga. Venus in its own sign or exaltation, in a kendra from the ascendant. One of the Pancha Mahapurusha yogas, it gives charm, comfort, vehicles and a good spouse.
Venus as yogakaraka. For Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants, a well placed Venus forms raja yoga on its own. Its 20 year dasha can be the best period of these lives.
Venus with Mercury. The pairing of beauty and intelligence, called Lakshmi-Narayana yoga in later tradition. It favours the arts, design, trade and diplomacy. Venus and Mercury are friends, and they often travel together close to the Sun.
Venus Mahadasha
Venus runs 20 years in the Vimshottari sequence, the longest of all 9 periods. It rules Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha. Anyone born with the Moon in one of these nakshatras starts life in the Venus period.
A strong Venus period brings marriage, comfort, vehicles, property and success in creative work. Relationships deepen. Money is spent on beauty and pleasure.
A weak Venus period brings disappointment in love, or indulgence that the body pays for. The house Venus occupies shows where that strain lands.
Venus matures at 25. Relationships and taste often settle around that age.
Venus in Transit

Signs of a Strong Venus and a Weak Venus
A strong Venus shows as charm and a happy married life. The person makes others comfortable. Beauty matters to them, and they usually have the means to enjoy it.
A weak Venus shows as trouble in love and a pull toward indulgence, and marriage often comes late or with difficulty. Money goes on pleasure faster than it comes in.
Debilitation in Virgo, combustion close to the Sun, and affliction by Rahu, Ketu or Mars are the usual causes. Read Venus's lordship for the ascendant as well. Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants depend on Venus as their yogakaraka, so a weak Venus costs them the most.
What the Puranas Teach About Venus's Nature
Vedic astrology and the Puranas describe the same planets. Shukra is both the planet Venus and the teacher of the asuras, and his stories carry the nature an astrologer reads in a chart.
These 3 accounts come from the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana.
The Guru Who Could Revive the Dead
Shukra is the son of the sage Bhrigu, and the Mahabharata also calls him Kavya and Bhargava. As guru of the asuras he held the Sanjivani, the knowledge that brings the dead back to life.
The Mahabharata (Adi Parva, Sambhava Parva, Section 76) shows it at work. Whenever the gods killed asuras in battle, Shukra revived them, and the gods had no answer.
This is Venus as the life force. The planet rules the reproductive fluid, the force that creates new life. In a chart it shows the capacity to restore and renew.
Kacha, Devayani and the Pull of Desire
The gods sent Kacha, the son of Brihaspati, to learn the Sanjivani. According to the Mahabharata, he won over Shukra's daughter Devayani with songs, dance, music, flowers and small services.
Again and again the asuras killed Kacha. Each time Devayani begged her father, and each time Shukra revived him for her sake, once even from inside his own body.
When Kacha finished his training, Devayani asked him to marry her (Section 77). He refused, since she was his teacher's daughter. She cursed his knowledge to bear no fruit, and Kacha told her she had acted out of passion.
The story shows the whole range of Venus. Art wins love here, and a father's love reverses death. When Devayani was refused, her desire turned into a curse. Astrologers also link the story to Parashara's table, where Venus counts Jupiter, Kacha's father, as neutral, since Shukra took in his rival's son.
Bali, Vamana and the Guardian of Wealth
The Bhagavata Purana (8.19 and 8.20) tells of Bali, the asura king and Shukra's disciple. Vishnu came to his sacrifice as Vamana, a young brahmin, and asked for 3 steps of land.
Shukra saw through the disguise at once. He warned Bali that the boy was Vishnu, and that the gift would cost him everything. Bali refused to break his word.
Shukra cursed him to fall from his fortune (8.20.14 and 15). Vamana covered the worlds in 2 steps, and Bali offered his own head for the third (8.22.2). He was later given Sutala, a world the Bhagavata describes as richer than heaven.
Here Venus is the adviser who protects prosperity, the planet of worldly wisdom and the careful keeping of wealth. The story also shows prosperity returning to a person who gave with a full heart. Venus remedies follow the same idea and centre on generosity.

Strengthening Venus
Venus responds to respect for women, and above all for the spouse. Keeping the home clean, pleasant and well kept is part of the same practice.

The traditional charity is white: rice, curd, sugar or white cloth, given on Friday. Giving something beautiful to someone who cannot afford it also suits Venus.
Diamond is Venus's gemstone. It suits some ascendants and harms others, so confirm it against the full chart. A personal consultation weighs Venus's lordship before any stone is worn.
