Sun Transit in Cancer

Cancer belongs to the Moon, and the Sun counts the Moon a friend, so Surya is comfortable here for the month it stays. Karka Sankranti opens Dakshinayana, the Sun's southern course, which the texts call the night of the devas.

Cancer governs the chest, the mother, the home and emotional memory. The Sun lights up the household and the person's standing inside it, and old family matters surface to be settled. Authority at home gets tested this month.

The nakshatras are Punarvasu, Pushya and Ashlesha. Punarvasu, under Jupiter, opens the stay with return and repair, Pushya, under Saturn, is the most nourishing stretch and suits study and feeding others, and Ashlesha, under Mercury, closes the month with matters that need careful speech.

Phaladeepika places the Sun well in the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh from the Moon, which falls to Taurus, Aquarius, Libra and Virgo Moons. Capricorn Moons carry it in the seventh. For Cancer Moons it sits in the first house, and both digestion and sleep suffer.

The month shows where a person still wants to be looked after like a child. Serving the mother, or whoever raised the person, is the most useful thing to do this month.
