What Jupiter in Cancer means
Cancer is Jupiter's sign of exaltation. Parashara and Brihat Jataka place the highest point at the fifth degree, and the sign lord, the Moon, is Jupiter's friend. This is the finest Jupiter transit of the twelve-year cycle. For about a year Jupiter gives wisdom, protection, prosperity and peace of mind, and gives them through the home.
Cancer rules the mother, the house, land, vehicles, the mind and the heart's sense of belonging. Each of these prospers. Property is acquired, the family grows, and the mother's blessing is felt directly. Emotional life steadies, and the person is more able to care for others.
The nakshatras are Punarvasu, Pushya and Ashlesha, and Punarvasu, Jupiter's own nakshatra, opens the stay with renewal. Pushya, ruled by Saturn, is the most auspicious nakshatra for nourishment and dharma. Jupiter exalted in Pushya is the peak of the transit. Ashlesha, ruled by Mercury, closes it with a more calculating quality.
From the Moon, Gemini, Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio and Virgo hold Jupiter in the second, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh, the houses Phaladeepika favours. Cancer Moons and Cancer lagnas carry an exalted Jupiter in the first house, a rare grace for health, standing and marriage. Sagittarius Moons have it in the eighth and Leo Moons in the twelfth, where even an exalted Jupiter spends more than it earns.
The transit tests the capacity to receive. Jupiter exalted asks nothing except that the person accept grace and pass it on. Those who serve their mother and their home find the year turns kind in every direction.
The remedy is gratitude in practice. Feed guests, honour the mother and the teacher, and give yellow cloth and turmeric on Thursday as Parashara prescribes. Recite Om Brihaspataye Namah, and keep a portion of any gain for charity. An exalted Jupiter rewards generosity more than any other remedy.
