What Mars in Hasta nakshatra means
Hasta is the Moon's nakshatra, ruled by Savitr, with a hand as its symbol. It lies in Virgo, the sign of Mercury, who is Mars's enemy. The Moon is Mars's friend, and the lord's kindness works against the sign's resistance. The result is skill under pressure.
Mars stays around three and a half weeks. When a retrograde loop falls here, the stay stretches to almost three months. Hasta's themes are craft, handiwork, healing by touch, trade and cleverness. Mars puts the hands to work: surgery, repair, carpentry, cooking and any skilled labour gain force.
The hands themselves are at risk, along with the intestines. Cuts, burns and strain from overwork are the common complaints. Mercury's sign turns Mars's anger into criticism, and Virgo's fault-finding becomes sharp.
