What Mercury in Hasta nakshatra means

Hasta is the hand, and Savitr, the Sun who sets things in motion, is its deity, with the Moon as lord. The nakshatra lies in the middle of Virgo, so Mercury is exalted in the sign. It is uneasy with the lord, since it counts the Moon an enemy. The skill is all there; the mood is the question.

The stay is about eight days, and a retrograde seldom holds Mercury here for long. Craft, handwriting, surgery, massage, accounting, coding, any work done with the fingers, comes forward. Hasta is laghu in Muhurta Chintamani's classes, light, and the days are good for trade, learning, medicine and travel. A thing begun here is usually finished quickly.

The transit shows what the hands do when the mind is clever and the heart is unsettled. Some make something. Some fidget. Hasta gives the person eight days to notice which.

The remedy is work done well with the hands and given away. Recite Om Budhaya Namah, worship Vishnu, and give green cloth or moong on Wednesday. Gayatri japa at sunrise honours Savitr, and a gift of rice or milk on Monday honours the Moon, the nakshatra lord.

Leo, Gemini, Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius and Scorpio Moons and lagnas hold Mercury in the second, fourth, sixth, eighth, tenth and eleventh, Phaladeepika's houses. Virgo, Cancer, Taurus, Pisces, Capricorn and Libra Moons have the others, and their skill may outrun their patience with the people around them.
