What Saturn in Scorpio means

Scorpio belongs to Mars, Saturn's enemy, and the two grahas carry the two great malefic qualities of Jyotish together in one sign. Mars is hot and Saturn is cold. For about two and a half years Saturn moves through the sign of hidden things. Fear, death and rebirth, inheritance, joint money, research and the occult all belong here.

This transit brings buried matters to the surface. Old fears return to be faced. Chronic illness, especially of the reproductive and excretory systems, needs attention. Money held with others, through inheritance, insurance or loans, becomes a source of delay and dispute.

Saturn crosses Vishakha, Anuradha and Jyeshtha. Anuradha is Saturn's own nakshatra, and in it Saturn gives discipline, devotion and the friendship of good people. This middle third of the stay is the steadiest. Jyeshtha, ruled by Mercury, closes the transit with tests of seniority and responsibility.

Sagittarius Moons enter Sade Sati, Scorpio Moons are in its middle phase and Libra Moons in its last. Leo Moons have Saturn in the fourth house and Aries Moons in the eighth. For Virgo, Gemini and Capricorn Moons and lagnas, Saturn sits in the third, sixth or eleventh, where Phaladeepika allows it to give.

The transit shows what one hides, even from oneself, and raises the cost of avoiding it. A person who does the inner work now comes out of the stay with far less fear than they entered with. Research, tantra, yoga and any deep study are supported.

The remedy is inner stillness. Regular meditation and a plain sattvic diet quiet the Mars and Saturn friction. Parashara's dana for Saturn, sesame, oil and iron given on Saturday, goes with service to the poor and the mantra Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah. Worship of Hanuman, who holds both Mars and Saturn in check, suits this transit above all.
