What Mercury in Rohini nakshatra means

Rohini lies wholly in Taurus, with Brahma, Prajapati, as its deity and a cart as its symbol. The Moon is its lord, and here the relationship is uneven. The Moon counts Mercury a friend, and Mercury counts the Moon an enemy, as Parashara's table of natural friendship gives it. Venus, the lord of Taurus, is Mercury's friend, so the sign softens what the nakshatra lord withholds.

The usual stay is about a week. When the retrograde loop falls on Rohini the stay can approach two months, among the longest Mercury spends in any nakshatra. Trade, accounts, produce, land and everything that grows come under Mercury's attention. Writing about beauty, food, money and family does well.

The unease is in the mind itself. The Moon's nakshatra asks for feeling and Mercury answers with reasoning, and the two do not always meet. A person may explain a feeling away, or count what should be felt. Muhurta Chintamani lists Rohini among the dhruva nakshatras, fixed, so what is started here tends to last, for good or ill.

Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius, Libra, Leo and Cancer Moons and lagnas have Mercury in Phaladeepika's favourable houses, the second, fourth, sixth, eighth, tenth and eleventh. Taurus, Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio, Virgo and Gemini Moons should watch their words with family and their signatures on property.

The transit measures the distance between what one feels and what one says. Rohini holds up the feeling, Mercury holds up the sentence, and the gap between them is the lesson.

For remedy, let feeling speak first and reasoning follow. Worship Vishnu, recite Om Budhaya Namah, and give green cloth or moong on Wednesday. An offering of milk or white flowers for the Moon, and a kind word to one's mother, settles the nakshatra lord.
