What Mercury in Pushya nakshatra means

Pushya lies in the middle of Cancer, with Brihaspati as deity, Saturn as lord, and a cow's udder, or a lotus, as symbol. Mercury is neutral toward Saturn, and Saturn is a friend to Mercury. The sign belongs to the Moon, whom Mercury counts an enemy. The nakshatra nourishes and the sign unsettles, and the reading holds both.

Mercury stays about eight days here, longer when it turns vakra nearby. Brihaspati is the priest and teacher, and Saturn is the worker, so Mercury's speech turns toward counsel, instruction and slow, careful accounting. Writing that teaches does well, and so does trade in food, milk, grain and land. Muhurta Chintamani counts Pushya among the laghu nakshatras, light, and the muhurta texts favour it for almost every beginning except marriage.

Gemini, Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius, Libra and Virgo Moons and lagnas hold Mercury in Phaladeepika's favourable houses from Cancer. Cancer, Taurus, Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio and Leo Moons have the other six. For them the week asks for fewer words and more listening, especially with elders and teachers.

Here a person learns how they receive instruction. Pushya feeds, and Mercury in the Moon's sign is not always willing to be fed. A person who can sit as a student for a week learns more here than in a month elsewhere.

The remedy is to honour the teacher. Offer a yellow flower or a sweet to Brihaspati on Thursday and keep a fixed hour of study. Recite Om Budhaya Namah, worship Vishnu, and give green cloth or moong on Wednesday. Saturn as lord is pleased by patience with slow work.
