What Rahu in Mula nakshatra means
Mula is the root, Ketu's nakshatra at the start of Sagittarius, with Nirriti as its deity and a bundle of roots as its symbol. Rahu here stands on its counterpart's ground, and the usual lists do not set the two nodes as friends or as enemies. Jupiter owns the sign and is neutral toward Rahu.
Rahu moves backward, entering Mula at the fourth pada and leaving from the first after about eight months. A direct spell of the true node can split the stay into two visits. Mula's themes are roots, origins, destruction, medicine from roots, and the digging that finds what is buried.
Rahu here digs. Old family matters, buried faults and forgotten debts are pulled up. Research into origins, genetics, herbs and ancestry prospers. Nirriti rules calamity, and Rahu can enlarge a small collapse into a large one when the roots were already loose.
Ketu stands in Ardra for the first half of the stay and in Mrigashira for the second. Libra, Cancer and Aquarius Moons hold Rahu in the third, sixth and eleventh, the houses Phaladeepika names favourable. Sagittarius Moons carry Rahu in the first and should watch the hips, their faith and their teachers. Gemini Moons have Ketu in the first and Rahu in the seventh, and Capricorn and Taurus Moons take the twelfth and eighth.
The transit shows what one is rooted in. When the roots are in dharma, the digging strengthens them. When they are in habit, the digging is painful and useful.
Durga is the deity to worship, with Om Ram Rahave Namah as the japa. Take no intoxicants, and dig into no one's past. Parashara prescribes mantra and dana; for Rahu the dana is dark cloth, sesame and oil, given on Saturday to someone without a home.
