What Sun in Mula nakshatra means
The Sun enters Sagittarius and Mula in the same moment, at Dhanu Sankranti. Mula is the bundle of roots, ruled by Ketu, with Nirriti as its deity. Jupiter, lord of the sign, is the Sun's friend, and the usual lists count Ketu an enemy. The graha is welcome in the sign and uprooted in the nakshatra.
The stay is about two weeks, and it holds the southern solstice. The Sun reaches its southern limit in declination and turns north during this fortnight. Dhanurmasa, the solar month of Sagittarius, is given in the tradition to worship and kept free of marriages and new undertakings. The Sun in Mula suits the same restraint.
Nirriti is the goddess of dissolution. Ketu digs, and the Sun's significations are traced to their root: a post to the appointment that made it, an illness to its cause. Government inquiries and audits are common. What is rotten at the root comes out.
The transit shows what the person is rooted in. Mula removes what has no root and leaves what has.
For Nirriti, give away what is no longer used, and feed those who have nothing. Recite Aditya Hridaya every morning of the stay, with water to the rising Sun. Give wheat on Sunday, and use the month of Dhanu for japa.
Libra, Cancer, Pisces and Aquarius Moons, and the same lagnas, have the Sun in the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh and gain. Sagittarius Moons carry the Sun in the first, Capricorn in the twelfth, Taurus in the eighth and Virgo in the fourth. Phaladeepika gives fear, loss and unrest for those houses.
