What Moon in Rohini nakshatra means

Rohini is the Moon's own nakshatra, in the middle of Taurus, the Moon's sign of exaltation. Its deity is Brahma as Prajapati, the lord of creatures, and its symbol is a cart or a chariot. The Moon is at home here in every sense. Of the twenty-seven daughters of Daksha, Rohini is the one the Moon loved most, and the stay is the month's most fertile day.

Muhurta Chintamani counts Rohini among the dhruva nakshatras, fixed. A dhruva day suits whatever is meant to last: foundations, planting, marriage, a house entry, coronation and the start of a long sadhana. Work that needs speed or movement is better placed elsewhere. About a day is available, and it is worth using.

From the birth nakshatra, Rohini is sampat for Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha, and kshema for Ashwini, Magha and Mula. Sadhana falls to Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada. It is mitra for Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha, and parama mitra for Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta.

Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha meet vipat; Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati meet pratyak; Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada meet naidhana. Rohini, Hasta and Shravana births have their janma tara, a day for routine and rest.

The day shows the mind at ease with the senses and with growth. Contentment is the Moon's own signification, and Rohini is where it is seen without strain. The fitting practice is gratitude: feed someone, give milk or white cloth, and sit with Shiva in the evening for the japa.
