Sun Transit in Uttara Phalguni

Uttara Phalguni, the back legs of the cot, is the Sun's own nakshatra, with Aryaman as its deity. One pada lies in Leo and three in Virgo, so the Sun passes from its own sign into Mercury's at Kanya Sankranti. The Sun is neutral toward Mercury. It stays at home in the nakshatra for the whole stay.

Aryaman is the Aditya of contracts, hospitality and the marriage bond, and for about two weeks the Sun's significations turn to promises: a treaty, an appointment letter, a marriage fixed, a father's word given. Uttara Phalguni is dhruva, and what is agreed now tends to last. In Virgo the Sun also asks for exactness in health, in accounts and in the wording of any agreement.

In the Leo pada, Gemini, Pisces, Scorpio and Libra Moons hold the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh. Once the Sun is in Virgo, Cancer, Aries, Sagittarius and Scorpio Moons take those houses, and Virgo Moons carry the Sun in the first, Libra in the twelfth, Aquarius in the eighth and Gemini in the fourth. Read the lagna the same way.

The transit shows how a person keeps their word. Aryaman rewards whoever honours a bond after the feeling behind it has cooled.

For Aryaman, host a guest well and pay what is owed to a friend. Recite the Aditya Hridaya daily with water to the rising Sun, and give wheat, jaggery or copper on Sunday.

Pitri Paksha falls in this part of the year, and in some years it opens during this stay. The atma is strong in the Sun's own nakshatra and can give, which makes it a fitting place for the ancestors' fortnight.
