What Sun in Ardra nakshatra means
Rudra's nakshatra, Ardra, is the teardrop in Gemini, and Rahu rules it. Rahu is the eclipser, an enemy of the Sun in the usual lists, and Mercury, lord of the sign, is neutral. The Sun's entry into Ardra is the traditional start of the rains in much of India. In Assam the Ambubachi of Kamakhya is observed at this entry.
The Sun stays about two weeks and stands near its northern limit in declination. Rudra brings storms, and the Sun's significations meet turbulence. Positions in government shift, a father's health or temper is tested, and the eyes suffer in the glare and damp. Rahu in the nakshatra magnifies whatever the Sun touches, so praise and blame both arrive out of proportion.
Ardra is a tikshna nakshatra, and the fortnight suits sharp work: an investigation, a difficult conversation, a diagnosis. It does not suit ceremony. Rudra also heals, and the sharpest days often close an old grievance.
Aries, Capricorn, Virgo and Leo Moons have the Sun in the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh houses and gain. Gemini Moons carry the Sun in the first, which Phaladeepika reads as fatigue and loss of standing. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces Moons have it in the twelfth, eighth and fourth and should guard health and the home. The lagna gives the second count.
