What Sun in Shravana nakshatra means

Vishnu presides over Shravana, the ear and the three footprints in Capricorn, ruled by the Moon. The Moon is the Sun's friend, and Saturn, lord of the sign, is an enemy. The Sun is here about two weeks in the cold of the year, with Uttarayana a fortnight old.

The nakshatra listens. The Sun's significations of authority and government show as announcements, budgets, hearings and the reading of a will. A father is heard more than seen. The ear and the eye share the Sun, and both need care in the dry season.

Shravana is chara, movable, and it favours travel, learning and the passing on of what one has heard. Vasant Panchami, the day of Saraswati, falls in some years during this stay, and study begun then is well begun. Vishnu's three steps measure the worlds, and the Sun in his nakshatra is asked to measure before it acts. Saturn's sign slows the Sun and rewards it for listening first.

Scorpio, Leo, Aries and Pisces Moons have the Sun in the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh, the houses Phaladeepika gives for gain. Capricorn Moons carry the Sun in the first and Aquarius Moons in the twelfth. Gemini and Libra Moons hold the eighth and fourth, and should watch health and the home. The count from the lagna gives the second reading.

The transit shows whether the person can hear. Authority that listens is Vishnu's own.

For Vishnu, the Vishnu Sahasranama or a simple Om Namo Narayanaya, with water to the rising Sun. Give wheat or copper on Sunday. Spend the fortnight hearing those in one's charge before deciding anything.
