Sun Transit in Shravana

Vishnu presides over Shravana, the ear and the three footprints in Capricorn, and the Moon rules it. The Moon is the Sun's friend, and Saturn, lord of the sign, is an enemy. The Sun is here about two weeks in the cold of the year, with Uttarayana a fortnight old.

Shravana listens. The Sun's significations of authority and government show as announcements, budgets, hearings and the reading of a will, and a father's words carry weight. The ear and the eye share the Sun, and both need care in the dry season.

Shravana is chara, movable. It favours travel, learning and passing on what one has heard, and in some years Vasant Panchami, Saraswati's day, falls during this stay, which makes it a good start for study. Vishnu's three steps measure the worlds. In his nakshatra the Sun is asked to measure before it acts, and Saturn's sign slows it and rewards it for listening first.

Scorpio, Leo, Aries and Pisces Moons have the Sun in the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh, the houses Phaladeepika gives for gain. Capricorn Moons carry the Sun in the first and Aquarius Moons in the twelfth. Gemini and Libra Moons hold the eighth and fourth and should watch health and the home. The lagna gives the second reading.

For Vishnu, recite the Vishnu Sahasranama or a simple Om Namo Narayanaya, and offer water to the rising Sun. Give wheat or copper on Sunday. Spend the fortnight hearing those in your charge before deciding anything.
