What Sun in Swati nakshatra means

The Sun's deepest debilitation falls in Swati. The nakshatra is the young shoot in the wind, in Libra, ruled by Rahu with Vayu as its deity. Venus is an enemy of the Sun, and the usual lists make Rahu one as well. Brihat Jataka places the debilitation point at ten degrees of Libra, inside Swati, so this is the weakest fortnight of the Sun's year.

The stay lasts about two weeks. Authority bends. A father defers, and the person in charge finds the decision taken elsewhere. Trade, the market and the opinion of others carry more weight than rank.

Vayu moves everything and holds nothing, and the fortnight favours travel, dealing and independent work over any command. Health asks for care, since the heart and the eyes are weaker in a debilitated Sun and the change of season brings fever. Diwali falls in some years during this stay, and the lamps are lit at the Sun's lowest.

Leo, Taurus, Capricorn and Sagittarius Moons have the Sun in the third, sixth, tenth and eleventh, the houses Phaladeepika calls favourable. Libra Moons carry the Sun in the first house. Scorpio, Pisces and Cancer Moons hold the twelfth, eighth and fourth, and should guard spending, health and the home. The lagna is read by the same count.

Swati shows how the person stands without support. The atma is unsupported in Swati, and a person who has depended on position feels the wind. A person who has depended on nothing feels very little.

Water to the rising Sun each morning, and Aditya Hridaya recited daily through the stay. Give wheat and jaggery on Sunday. For Vayu, pranayama at dawn, and Hanuman on Tuesday, since the son of the wind restores strength.
