Jupiter Transit in Uttara Phalguni

Aryaman, god of contracts and of marriage, presides over Uttara Phalguni. The Sun rules it and its symbol is the back legs of a cot. The first pada lies in Leo and the rest in Virgo, and the Sun and Jupiter are friends through the whole nakshatra. Its Leo pada adds a friendly sign lord. In the Virgo padas the sign belongs to Mercury, an enemy, and Jupiter works on less friendly ground for most of the stay.

Uttara Phalguni signs the agreement that Purva Phalguni celebrated. Marriages are fixed, partnerships are written down and a patron's promise is honoured, and Jupiter, karaka of the ninth house, finds here the dharma of keeping one's word.

In the Virgo padas the promise turns into work: service, accounts, medicine, the care of dependants. Jupiter in Mercury's sign is exact and a little dry. It gives through detail.

• For the Leo pada, Cancer, Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius and Libra Moons have Jupiter in Phaladeepika's favourable houses.
• For the Virgo padas the same houses fall to Leo, Taurus, Pisces, Capricorn and Scorpio Moons.
• Virgo Moons carry Jupiter in the first for most of the stay, and Libra Moons have it in the twelfth.
• Lagnas are counted the same way.

Aryaman teaches keeping a contract when it costs something, and Jupiter here shows who does.

Fulfil an old promise, which is how Aryaman is honoured. Om Brihaspataye Namah on Thursday and Parashara's dana of yellow cloth, turmeric or gram support the graha. Marry, sign and give with a witness present, and let the guru bless the agreement.
