What Jupiter in Sagittarius means

Sagittarius is Jupiter's own sign and its moolatrikona, which Parashara sets in the first ten degrees. Jupiter is at home and at its most itself. The sign rules dharma, teachers, law, higher study, faith, long travel and the father. For about a year Jupiter gives each of them freely.

This is the transit of the teacher. Study, teaching, publishing, pilgrimage and legal success all prosper, and the father's blessing and the guru's grace are close. Faith, whether newly found or long held, grows deeper and more practical. Children are favoured, since Jupiter is their karaka.

The nakshatras are Mula, Purva Ashadha and Uttara Ashadha. Mula, ruled by Ketu, opens the stay by removing what is false, which can feel harsh at first. Purva Ashadha, ruled by Venus, is the most enjoyable third, with popularity and early victories. Uttara Ashadha, the Sun's nakshatra, closes the transit with lasting achievement.

Scorpio, Leo, Gemini, Aries and Aquarius Moon signs receive Jupiter in Phaladeepika's favourable houses, the second, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh. Taurus Moons have Jupiter in the eighth and Capricorn Moons in the twelfth, where a strong Jupiter still gives, through inheritance and through charity. Sagittarius Moons carry Jupiter in the first house, one of the finest placements for health, honour and marriage. The lagna is counted the same way.

The transit shows how one holds dharma when it is easy. Jupiter at home tests generosity by giving abundance. The person who gives a portion away holds the rest more lightly.

The remedy is to teach and to give. Parashara's dana for Jupiter, yellow cloth, turmeric and gold, is best given to a student or a teacher on Thursday. Recite Om Brihaspataye Namah, and make one pilgrimage during the stay. Watch the hips and the liver, which Jupiter and Sagittarius share.
