What Moon in Ardra nakshatra means
Ardra sits in Gemini under the rule of Rahu. Its deity is Rudra, the howler, and its symbol a teardrop or a gem. The Moon has no enemy in Parashara's table, and Rahu stands outside it. In the usual lists Rahu counts the Moon an enemy, and the Moon is uneasy in Rahu's nakshatras.
Muhurta Chintamani classes Ardra as tikshna, sharp. Such a day serves separation, the breaking of a bond that must break, the taming of something wild, and fierce mantra sadhana. It is not a day for marriage, for travel, for a new venture or for asking a favour. The Moon crosses it in about a day, and in that day grief and storm are close to the surface.
From the birth nakshatra, Ardra is sampat for Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta, and kshema for Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha. It is sadhana for Ashwini, Magha and Mula, mitra for Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada, and parama mitra for Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada.
Rohini, Hasta and Shravana have vipat here, Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha have pratyak, and Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati have naidhana. Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha births meet their janma tara.
The day shows what the mind has not wept for. Rudra's gift is the tear that clears the eye, and the transit brings the unfinished sorrow up where it can be seen. Rudra japa or the Shiva mantra, water poured on the lingam, and a quiet hour alone fit the day, with no lasting decision made.
