Ashwini opens the zodiac at the first degree of Aries. Its deity is the pair of Ashwini Kumaras, physicians of the gods, its lord is Ketu, and its symbol is a horse's head. Parashara's table of natural friendship lists no enemy for the Moon. Ketu falls outside that table, so no friendship is counted here.

In muhurta Ashwini is a laghu nakshatra, light and quick. Muhurta Chintamani gives such days to work that should finish fast: trade, medicine, learning, craft, ornaments and short travel.
