What Moon in Dhanishta nakshatra means

Dhanishta spans the end of Capricorn and the start of Aquarius, both Saturn's signs. Mars rules it, the eight Vasus are its deities, and its symbol is a drum or a flute. The Moon regards Mars as neutral, and Mars regards the Moon as a friend. Saturn, lord of both signs, counts the Moon an enemy, and the day has Mars's push inside Saturn's restraint.

In muhurta Dhanishta is a chara nakshatra, movable, and Muhurta Chintamani gives such days to travel, vehicles, gardening and work that moves. Music and rhythm belong to the drum, and a performance or a rehearsal goes well. A purchase made today tends to hold, since the Vasus are the gods of abundance. Marriage and foundations wait for a fixed day.

From the birth nakshatra, Dhanishta is sampat for Rohini, Hasta and Shravana, and kshema for Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha. Sadhana falls to Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati. Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada have mitra, and Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha have parama mitra.

Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha have vipat, Ashwini, Magha and Mula have pratyak, and Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada have naidhana. Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta births have their janma tara, a day for the ordinary.

The day shows the mind's relation to plenty, whether it can hold wealth without being held by it. The Moon spends about a day here, and in that day generosity and greed both show themselves early. A fitting practice is dana given in rhythm: a fixed sum, a fixed day, no ceremony. Sit for the Moon's japa with a drum or a metronome if the mind will not settle.
