What Moon in Vishakha nakshatra means

Vishakha runs through three padas of Libra and ends with one in Scorpio. Jupiter rules it, Indra and Agni share its deity, and its symbol is a triumphal arch or a potter's wheel. The Moon regards Jupiter as neutral, and Jupiter regards the Moon as a friend. The fourth pada carries the Moon into its sign of debility, and the day changes tone at that border.

Muhurta Chintamani counts Vishakha with Krittika as mishra, mixed, and gives such days to fire rites, agnihotra and duties with some heat in them. Any effort that needs a push toward a goal suits it too, since Indra and Agni together give drive. Marriage, reconciliation and gentle beginnings sit poorly here. The Moon stays about a day.

Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada births have their janma tara. Counting from the other birth nakshatras:

  • Sampat for Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha; kshema for Rohini, Hasta and Shravana.
  • Sadhana for Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha; mitra for Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati.
  • Parama mitra for Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada.
  • Vipat for Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta; pratyak for Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha.
  • Naidhana for Ashwini, Magha and Mula.

The day shows the mind's hunger for a result and what it will sacrifice to get one. Under this Moon a person sees their own ambition without the excuses that usually cover it. A fitting practice is to work hard at one thing and refuse the second. Offer a lamp to Agni at dusk, milk to Shiva, and recite the Moon's mantra before sleep.
