Venus Transit in Jyeshtha

Indra, king of the gods, is the deity of Jyeshtha, and its symbol is an earring or the umbrella held over a king. Mercury rules it and is a friend of Venus. The nakshatra fills the last third of Scorpio and ends at the gandanta with Mula. Mars, lord of the sign, is neutral to Venus.

The eldest is the theme, and with it rank. Venus gives comfort through position: a promotion, a senior's favour, a gift from an elder sibling, income from a post of responsibility. Relationships turn on the question of who leads, and art made in these eleven days or so has authority and some hardness.

Jyeshtha is tikshna in muhurta and is not listed for a wedding. It suits the confrontation that has been avoided, the ending of a lease and the removal of a burden. In the last pada, near the gandanta, a relationship may fail or be cleared. Delay any purchase there.

• Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo and Cancer Moons hold Venus in the first to fifth houses and gain standing and the affection of seniors.
• Aries, Pisces, Capricorn and Sagittarius Moons have it in the eighth, ninth, eleventh and twelfth, favourable in Phaladeepika, with gains through inheritance and friends.
• Gemini, Taurus and Aquarius Moons receive it in the sixth, seventh and tenth and should avoid a contest with a partner or a superior.

The transit shows how a person holds rank in love, by protection or by control. Indra's umbrella shelters those beneath it, and these days show whether one's own authority protects anyone.
