What Venus in Dhanishta nakshatra means

The eight Vasus, gods of wealth and of the elements, are the deities of Dhanishta. Mars is its lord and its symbol is a drum, or a flute. Two padas lie in Capricorn and two in Aquarius, both signs of Saturn, a friend of Venus. Mars is neutral to Venus in Parashara's table, so the transit rests on Saturn's friendship.

Dhanishta means the wealthiest, and the name is earned. Venus here, over a stay of around eleven days, brings:

  • income from music, dance, rhythm and performance, since the drum and the flute are the symbols;
  • gain through property and through a group or company, with Saturn's signs on both sides;
  • marriage with a partner of means, or a wedding paid for with some show;
  • a vehicle or an instrument bought with pleasure.

Dhanishta is a chara nakshatra in muhurta and suits travel, a change of house and the start of a business. The Capricorn padas favour the disciplined arts and the Aquarius padas the arts of the crowd. Mars adds a temper. A quarrel over money in a marriage, or a rival in the arts, is the usual form of trouble.

Leo, Cancer and Aries Moons should take care for the Capricorn padas, and Virgo, Leo and Taurus Moons for the Aquarius padas. Venus then sits in the sixth, seventh or tenth from them, and Leo Moons hold it there throughout. Every other Moon sign and lagna has Venus in a house Phaladeepika calls favourable, and Capricorn and Aquarius Moons receive it in the first.

The transit shows what one does with plenty. The remedy is Om Shukraya Namah said to a rhythm, since Dhanishta is a nakshatra of music. Rice or silver given on Friday to a musician or to the poor is the dana. The Vasus are honoured by keeping one's wealth in motion and not in a hoard.
