What Jupiter in Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra means

Purva Bhadrapada is Jupiter's own nakshatra, the last of its three. Its first three padas lie in Aquarius, Saturn's sign, and its fourth in Pisces, Jupiter's own. The deity is Aja Ekapada, the one-footed goat, counted among the Rudras in some lists. The symbols are the front legs of a funeral cot and a sword.

The graha transits its own nakshatra with authority. In the Aquarius padas that authority is spent on causes, reform and the discipline of a group. In the Pisces pada it turns inward, and Jupiter becomes strong in its own sign. The stay of about four to five months is often broken by a retrograde into two visits.

Tapas is the theme. Wealth is given away or spent on a purpose. Children may be intense, and a child's spiritual leaning shows now. The sword cuts the person's own attachments before it touches anyone else.

Capricorn, Libra, Leo, Gemini and Aries Moons and lagnas gain in the Aquarius padas, with Jupiter in Phaladeepika's favourable houses. In the last pada the gain moves to Aquarius, Scorpio, Virgo, Cancer and Taurus. Pisces, Scorpio, Virgo and Cancer Moons should go slowly in the first three padas, with Jupiter in the twelfth, fourth, sixth and eighth. Aries, Sagittarius, Libra and Leo Moons take the same care in the fourth.

How much austerity a person's faith can bear is the reading. Jupiter is one's own wisdom, and Purva Bhadrapada removes from it whatever was only borrowed.

Honour Aja Ekapada with a fast on Thursday, or a vow held for the whole stay. Japa of Om Brihaspataye Namah and Parashara's dana of yellow cloth, turmeric or gram are the graha's remedies. Serve a teacher who asks for nothing, and keep the austerity private, since Aja Ekapada is not served by display.
